Description
Jadeite, especially the more translucent type, typically commands a higher price than serpentine jade. Officially, only Jadeite and Nephrite are considered jade in mineralogy. Amongst them, Burmese jadeite commands even higher price than Guatemalan jadeite, and the more transparent/glass-like jadeites are more valued than the more opaque ones.
Type A just means natural jadeite, without added dyes or bleached and injected with polymer resin to conceal cracks and flaws. It has no bearing on the quality of jadeite colours, translucency and inclusions, unlike diamond grading.
This must be emphasised as many tend to think of it as the gold/diamond standard for jade, but Type A typically just refer to jadeite which has no colour dye, bleach and polymer resin injection. It comes in a wide range of qualities and translucencies, and a wide price range. I have another Type A jadeite ring that is carved with the Tang Vines, which commands a lower price due to the opacity of the jadeite.
