Description

“Riding Shadows” is a bold reimagining of the Qing-era majia (马甲) riding vest and mamian skirt (马面裙), fused with Western Victorian flat-front pleated skirt sensibilities. The silhouette evokes movement and grace, with a high-waisted bodice flowing into stitched side-panel skirts that echo the mamian pleats—an elegant dialogue between structure and freedom.

The top is crafted from Zhuang brocade, a textile celebrated for its intricate geometric patterns and symbolic resonance, while the lower skirt features pastel chrysanthemum brocade that softens the architectural form and introduces a subtle, iridescent shimmer in motion. Together, they bridge regional craftsmanship with a cosmopolitan aesthetic.

In the spirit of enhancing practicality in modern women’s wear, the design incorporates discreet side pockets on both sides—thoughtfully integrated into the skirt panels to preserve fluidity while offering functionality.

Each piece is fully customizable. Visitors to the studio may select preferred fabric combinations and colour harmonies, or experiment with silk kimono and obi textiles for a layered historical conversation. Every ensemble becomes a personal expression of heritage, reinterpretation, and contemporary wearability.
